This project involves the modification of the existing chancel in response to changes in the liturgy and music program of the church. The existing pipe organ was in disrepair and is being replaced by a new tracker organ. Architectural changes to accommodate the new organ include revisions to the ceiling to improve acoustics and opening up blind arches to either side of the altar stairs. The latter change establishes two ‘lighting lofts’ which allow for better sound projection from the choir and organ and a greater sense of connectivity between the chancel and the nave. Movable chancel furnishings and a portable centered pulpit allow for greater flexibility in the chancel and signals a move toward a more direct connection between the pastor and congregation. |
